A NKO doctor in the hospital prescribes the following solution to inject into the middle ear

Gentamycin sulfate 1.5 ml of a solution 40mg/ml Nabicarbonaat 0.5 ml of a oplossing50mg/ml
sterile solution with pH 6.4 to 10ml Can you help us with the cooking method?

Answer

Ampoules geomycin contain 80mg/2ml. So, for the preparation, it is apparently assumed that these ampoules are considered as raw material not available in Belgium. Would be better off the pure raw material, given that it is not always well known whether or not certain substances are ototoxic. Now the NKO doctor will first of all be aware of the ototoxicity of Gentamycin. Problems usually dive with prolonged use. The optimal functioning of gentamycin is at pH = 7.8. Probable reason why Nabicarbonaat is in the prescription. Consequently, it is also desirable not to reduce this pH to 6.4. The isotonic concentration for NaHCO3 is 1.4%. For 10 ml This means 140mg NaHCO3. In the trade, a sterile 4.2% solution is filled in vials stock. From this vial we take 3ml solution with a sterile needle syringe and bring it aseptically into a pre-sterilized vial. In this solution, we add 1.5 ml of aseptically taken from a geomycin ampoule with a 2ml syringe. The solution is supplemented to 10ml with water for injections.
