Diachylon Ointment as fissures ointment: the problem of lead plaster.

Diachylon ointment always had a solid reputation as fissures ointment or this is overrated. Lead plaster or emplastrum Oxidi Plumbici is no longer to be given due to heavy metal? Do you have any scientific argument about the "good" functioning of Diachylon and can you suggest a worthy alternative? Or sat the "force" of the lead plaster ointment in its other components.

Answer

In my opinion, there is no doubt that the lead is the most important part of the operation. For example, for fissures, the following ointment was used with phenol, oil, lead subacetate ointment and Lanoline. The lead Subacetate ointment contains: lead subacetate solution and Ung. Simp. Also those fissures ointment was known for its good result.

But several studies have been published in the literature, which strongly advise against the further use of lead. As: ZEITSCHR. HAUTKR. 1989 DEC 15; 64 (12): 1118-20: Lead poisoning caused by long-term use of Diachylon ointment by Bialonczyk C, Partsch H, Donner A., dermatological Abteilung, Wihelminenspitals Wien.

perhaps with care and knowledge used Diachylon ointment still usable? Yet she is discouraged. Now lead plaster is no longer to buy and I suspect that no one but also no pharmacist is able to jump to make this preparation.
