We have problems with following preparation: Benzocaine 20% Aqua AD 200 ml

However, < br/> Benzocaine does not dissolve in water. The salt form is not to get. The preparation is intended for a local anesthetic in the mouth (dental practice). May this be in ethanol or is there another possibility? 20% is therefore desirable. The dentist did not specify the solvent, however, that it should taste sweetened if necessary by adding sugar. Do you have a solution for this?

Answer

This is a very high dose. A solution in water even with cosolvents and solubilisation seems to me doubtful. I suspect that pure alcohol will be necessary. What this would give you is a question for me. An alternative possibility would be a paste based on BV polyethylene glycol. You can try with PEG 1500 but I don't exclude that it gets too liquid and that you have to add PEG 4000 or 6000. A little raspberry extract can give it a taste. Maybe I can hear the result?
