Shelf life of next preparation? Quinine sulfate 300mg acetylsalicylic acid 100mg papaverine 80mg f gel I DT 60 Egg

problem: After 3 months, the content has become a crumble whole. The capsules have been in a pharmacy cupboard in a kitchen. What is the reason for the distashing of the capsules: moisture, incompatibility?

Answer

You will agree that the storage of these capsules has not expired in ideal conditions, even if they were delivered in a plastic or glass jar.
Gelatine capsules, which are kept in a humid atmosphere absorb a lot of water and this water is then the beginning of all sorts of possible reactions. In This case, this could be a reaction between acetylsalicylic acid or the formed acetic acid with papaverine. What the reaction product looks like is unknown to me. But it could well be a kneaded mass. So the lesson is: These capsules should be kept in drier conditions. Possibly we bring a tablet with silica gel in the bottle or jar. As a final note, I should mention that a two-month shelf life for magisterial preparations is not bad!!!
