Oral gel with Tetracycline; Like composition.

US for Tetracycline HCl 5% in mouthwash. Customer has a painful aft. I wonder if a mouth gel to apply locally is no longer appropriate?. Like a composition

Answer

A first question is of course: is tetracycline sufficient? I would combine this with a cortoicosteroid anyway.

Maybe best start with something not too complicated namely the Hypromellose 20% ointment. Is included in the booklet Galenic Formularium.

Triamcinolonacetonide dilution 1:10 1 g, HPMC 4000 19.5 g propylene glycol 5 g, tetracyclineHCl 3   g, White petroleum jelly up to 100 g

Rub   HPMC 4000 with an equal amount of white Vaseline to homogeneous and dilute further S.A. with   Vaseline

Mix in a mortar triamcinolonacetonide-dilution with tetracyclineHCl and add propylene glycol and mix to homogenous paste. Dilute this paste gradually with the mixture HPMC-Vaseline

There is of course the possibility to add extra BV   5 G benzocaine. Prepare about thirty grams.

An alternative basis is the mouth paste of NF VI
