An ointment for treating hemorrhoids "petrient"

The composition is the following: Zinc peroxide 50% 10g; Zinc oxide 10g; Corn starch 10g; Orabase 30g (= full tube); Paraffin oil up to 85g This paste is packaged in an aluminum tube. We have always worked with the same raw materials lately. Could there be an incompatibility?

Answer

For me it seems peculiar that you are only now getting problems.

Before starting the analysis of the problem here is the qualitative composition of Orabase  :   Orabase is composed or gelatin , pectin and sodium carboxymethylcellulose in Plastibase (plasticised hydrocarbon gel).   Plastibase is a substitute for petroleum jelly. It is polyethylene resin dispersed with a special technique in liquid paraffin.

so Orabase is full of negatively charged polymers, which can certainly regaren with Zn ions, which we can find in the presence of water.

So the first draw conclusion is "avoids all water". Starch is found In your composition. And starch is known as a carbohydrate, capable of adsorbing a very important amount of water without therefore being curable. So it must be ensured that drying at 110 ° C creates the starch powder dry.

If no better result is obtained with this recommendation, the possibility of preparing a modified Orabase will continue.
