How is the next preparation best made? Menthol Chlorbutol AA 7.5 aq. Hamamelis disinfect. Alcohol 96 ° AA 90 g perhydrosqalone 24 g polysorbate 9 g F.S.A.

Emulsion < br/> The preparation serves for venous problems, (S/after cold leg showers, and prescribed by an angiologist)
I have made this recipe as such with tween 80, it gives a very unstable emulsion (2 layers separating after very short Time). Somehow I once read that one works better with Lanette SX if emulsifier works, is that so? If so, how much should you use?

Answer

The emulsion exhibits a slight stability for two reasons. The first is the presence of a fairly important amount of alcohol. The second the lack of a co-emulsifier. There is the possibility to use a Span or Arlacel either cetyl or cetostearyl alcohol. In The first case, we must ensure that the HLB value is adjusted to the polarity of the oil In which we want to prepare an O/W emulsion. Perhydrosqualone belongs to the group of apolar Oli ë N.
In The case of cetyl alcohol we must ensure that the emulsion remains liquid.

  • First possibility

the HLB value for Perhydrosqualone must be located around 12. Thus, this means that the mixture Tween 80 and Arlacel C 80 must be composed approximately in the ratio 7/11 versus 4/11. This corresponds to 6 g Tween 80 and 3 G Arlacel C. Of course, a different Span or Arlacel can be invoked but I prefer Arlacel C because this product will be available in every pharmacy.

  • Second possibility

add to the composition 3 to 6 G cetyl or cetostearyl alcohol. The quantity used will determine the consistency. The amount of alcohol is reduced by the amount of CSA used.
