Following preparation gives problems: Miconazole nitrate 3 G tegobetaine L7 20 g Comperlan KD 4 G texapon N40 100 g citric acid 0.05 g Aqua AD 200 g

When adding a small amount of shampoo base to the Miconazole nitrate powder, a liquid mixture was obtained. When adding the base, I more and more obtained a "tough slime". The whole was no longer liquid, but rather a kind of "clog"... I must say that instead of Texapon N40 Texapon NSO was used. Is this the cause of this phenomenon? Or does the salt miconazole nitrate react with é é N of the constituents of the shampoo base?

Answer

I can rather bite your second assumption. Although little soluble in water, miconazole nitrate is likely to be better solved by the present Tensio-active substances (Texapon NSO), which, however, carry a negative charge and thus can react with the miconazole (+). I suggest you use Miconazole as also ketoconazole is used in Nizoral shampoo.
