Eye drops Adrenaline 1%

This Collyre "Adrenaline 1%" is intended for diagnostic purposes and is used as unidose. The Conservans phenylmercuriborate is no longer available and therefore I propose the following composition, which is delivered 1 à 2 hours before the visit to the ophthalmologist:
adrenalin bitartrate 1.82 g
Vit C 200mg
borax 2.95 g
Na Metabisulfite 300mg
Sterile WATER AD 100ml.
10ml is filtered by a sterilized millipore filter 0.2 μ m.

Answer

This composition was published in a Dutch formulary as neutral adrenaline eye drops. It is indeed used as a preservative for feylmercuriborate. Whether this can be replaced by Benzalkonium chloride is not goose clear since this preservative is indicated as incompatible with organic salts as benzoate, salicylate and... So we should do a test to see if Benzalkonium chloride is compatible with this compound.
