Crystals in Actifed syrup

We have made a cough syrup in which we have used the formula of actifed syrup as a starting point. However, without codeine phosphate and using the note that sodium citrate (0.15%) Used to prevent crystallization. After 2 weeks there will be crystal formation and now my question is whether I can add anything now to counter this crystallization. Warming up makes them disappear, but when cool they appear back. The pink discoloration also begins to occur. Is there anything to mask this discoloration?

Answer

I think that next composition is pretty similar to the original formula:

codeine phosphate 400mg;   pseudoephedrine HCl 1200mg;   Triprolidine HCl 80mg; N a citrate 300mg;   Aqua Purif 20 ml  ;   Guaifenesin 4g;   Vanillinne 200mg;   Ethanol 94 ° 30 g  ;   Sirupus Sorbitoli 70% NF6 ad 200cc  .   Here we find indeed after citrate back. This product will undoubtedly set an of PH and may be a result of the formation of codeine,   Tripolidine and   pseudoephedrine.   for codeine phosphate, this is a plus point given the low stability in water.   Codeine and pseudoephedrine are soluble in water and so there is little risk of it being crystallized. But for Tripolidine this is a different story.   Now that codeine phosphate does not appear in your composition there are only two products of the original three that react with after citrate and it could be that in your composition more tripolidine base is formed than in the original.     I would reduce the amount after citrate to 200 mg and add 100 mg citric acid.   in the case of discoloration, you can find information on the website. Fill in the search vein actifed in and read the answer to the question "We have a peculiar problem with............................ "It may be necessary to replace all citric acid after citrate.
