Composition Tretinoine Lotio (0.1%) For acneic oily Skin

-What is the best basis for such lotio: denatured ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, a mix of both? -Can this be added propylene glycol, and if so, in what proportion? -How long does such lotio keep? Does cool storage have an advantage?

Answer

You could use the following as a composition, which is described in the Formularium Dutch pharmacists.

Tretinoine     100   mg

ungenerated alcohol 40.4 g

Butylhydroxytolua   (BHT) 50 mg

Propylene glycol 51.9 g

One should start solving BHT in alcohol. Then a beaker is defusing   and disperges the Tretinoin in a few ml of this solution. After that, the rest can be added and, if necessary, lightly heated to get the tretinoin in solution. Then let one cool off. In the end one adds propylene glycol. One weighs the whole and adds alcohol to Tare + 92.5 g (= 100 ml)

A clarification  , which you as a physician is not unknown. Tretinoine is a dangerous raw material and this preparation should be made with great precautions like wearing a mouth mask, glasses   and gloves. And by male staff.

Furthermore, Tretinoin is very light sensitive and therefore the preparation in a dark zone should be made without the use of metal Utensiliën.     The solution is packaged in a dark brown bottle wrapped in aluminum foil or wrapped in a box That does not let light through. Do not store   in the refrigerator. There is talk of a shelf life of 6 months but personally I prefer the general rule for magial preparations Ttz 2 month. So best adjust the prescribed amount.
