Are these nasal drops Isotoon? Phenylephrine HCL 2.5 G Naphazoline HCL 1.0 G Chlorbutol 5.0 g Menthol 200 mg Eucalyptol 5 dr Glycerin 20 ml Tween 80 10 Dr Propylene glycol

20 ml
water AD 1 L < BR/>

Answer

We begin to convert the volumes into mass & #039; s. We can leave menthol, Tween and eucalyptol aside. Glycerin (GL) 20 ml is 25.2 g or 2.5%
propylene glycol (PG) 20 ml is about 20 g or 2%
the E value for GL 0.35 and so we have 0875% NaCl
the E value for PG is 0.43 and so we have 0.86% NaCl
both so quasi isotoon. With 1 of the two we have already achieved isotonic, the medicines are not counted.
then we will calculate with the E value how much (in percentage) the Phenylephrine + Naphazoline + chlorbutol to NaCl mean. We then withdraw from 0.9% NaCl and the rest we make isotonic with GL and PG. Hereby 22.5 g of a mixture of 12.5 g GL and 10 g PG gives 1 litre isotonic solution.

the reduction in the amount of GL and PG could have the effect that the solution is no longer clear! Maybe it should be worked with just PG, because of its potentially larger solution power?
