Cocaine hydrochloride eye Drops 5% FNA is asked

The composition, which I used is: cocaine HCl 5g; Boric acid 400mg; DinaEDTA 100mg and Aqua PURIFICATA AD 100ml When cocaine HCl is added to the solution of the water-soluble products, it does not go into solution but continues to float on the surface of the water. Light warming does not help.

Answer

We are dealing with a humidification problem, which is due here because you have prepared the eyedrop without a hold.

There are two solutions:

1. Make the cocaine powder very fine by rubbing it in a rough mortar. The greater degree of finity increases the dissolving speed and maybe then the powder will not have the tendency to flotation.

2. Add the amount of benzalkonium chloride as foreseen in the FNA in the composition with preservative.
