Geomycin cream is no longer available. Is this a loco?

An elderly lady has a leg wound and the doctor prescribes Geomycin creme 0.1%. But this product is out of the trade, only the vials of gentamcine 80mg/80ml are available. The most feasible seems to me is to prepare a gel here (0.1%). Can I prepare it both with carbomeer, or MC or HPC or... Which excipients should I take into account? Is it sufficient to disinact my mortar and pestle with disinfectant alcohol to work as germ-free as possible?

Answer

Given the concentration of the solution you have = 1mg/ml You do not have a play area. As a gelvormer you can use Hydroxypropylcellulose (Klucel GF), which you should dissolve in a concentration of 5% in the   gentamycin solution. Adding an intermediate fabric to avoid clumping is not included. You would need at least 5 G glycerin and you already have a concentration reduction by solving 5 g HPC. But after a certain wait time, the HPC,   slowly   added stirring well to the gentamycin solution, will   probably solve it. Meanwhile, cover the cooking vessel well!

span style = "line-height: 1.6 em;" > more possibilities offer for the preparation of this gel when one uses the Gentamycin solution 3mg/ml seen than per 100 g gel only 34 ml of gentamycin solution is needed. Over 66   ML remains for the preparation of a gel, which can therefore be sterilized separately using heat.   I span style = "line-height: 20.7999992370605 px;" > n a second stage is diluted with the gentamycin solution  .

span style = "line-height: 20.7999992370605 px;" > In both cases, the gel is filled in a sterilized tube. Sterilization of the tube is possible by heat, after wrapping the tube in parchment paper. A boiling pressure pan can serve as an alternative to the classic autoclave. After sterilization, the wrapped tube is dried. The cap of the tube is treated with alcohol 70 °

The shelf life of the gel is limited to 1 month under preservation in the refrigerator.
