Posted on: April 26 2018Is there a preparation of Pilocarpine eye drops possible without preservative and what is the shelf life?
Patient asks for eye drops with pilocarpine 2% without preservative. (as replacement of the missing Pilocarpine Minims in the Netherlands)
Is A preparation possible here? The shelf life will be shorter as normal?
Answer
We use the following composition: Pilocarpine HCl 200 mg; 38 Boric acid 70 mg; and water for injections to 10 ml (g)
Sterilization is preferably done with the method of flowing water vapour.
When stored in the refrigerator shelf life 14 days
