Compulsory materials in the pharmacy

Appendix 3 of the Royal Decree of 21 January 2009 (update 06-04-2018) provides a list of devices and instruments that must be kept in the pharmacy at all times. This list contains material that is mainly used for the storage and preparation of medicines. Outsourcing of pharmaceutical compounding does not relieve the pharmacist of the obligation to have the required material at his disposal.

  -A magnetic stirrer with heating element that can serve as a hot water bath and accompanying magnetic stirrers.
  - a set of 6 porcelain or metal dishes;
  - 3 watch glasses of suitable diameters;
  - 2 drop counters;
  - 2 sieves in silk or metal wire, with an opening of 0.15 mm and 0.30 mm;
  - a set of three funnels in inert material;
  - white and brown glass bottles, dropper bottles, safety cap bottles, droppers, ointments, boxes, gelatine capsules, etc. and, in general, all the receptacles necessary for the proper storage and delivery of the medicinal products;
  - a set of measuring cylinders from 10 to 100 mL;
  - an appropriate set of smooth mortars with adapted rammers;
  - a form for suppositories for infants, children and adults;
  - white filter paper;
  - A series of pipettes from 1mL to 10mL] calibrated at 1/10 mL (ERRATUM, see B.St. 02-05-2018, p. 37259).
  - a set of 4 spatulas of different sizes;
  - a thermometer from -10° C to 110° C, graduated in degrees;
  - a range of beakers from 50 to 1000 mL;
  - 1 sterile bottle and 1 sterile filter for eye drops;
  - pH indicator paper with a resolution of half a unit;
  - a set of suitable moulds for filling capsulas;
  - a device for filling ointment tubes;
  - a three-roll mill for ointments;
  - a refrigerator with a controlled temperature of 2° C to 8° C;
  - an ointment plate;
  - a homogeniser capable of homogenising at least 30 mL;
  - one or more scales in order to carry out in an appropriate manner all the weighings for the preparations in the pharmacy, according to the applicable regulations;
  - per type of scale, at least 1 approved calibration weight, adapted to the capacity of the scale, with accuracy class F1 per scale;
  - a glass stirrer;
  - at least one 250 mL conical flask.
  If sterile preparations, with the exception of filterable water solutions, are made in a pharmacy, a workbench with laminar flux shall also be provided.'.
